02. Why wouldn't I rather start a nonprofit myself? Because it is faster and easier with WE AID.
Those who want to get involved in the face of crises want to start immediately, want to take advantage of the spontaneous willingness to help that many people then show, and want to get aid quickly to where it is urgently needed. WE AID makes exactly that possible.
WE AID is intended as a bridge structure for initiatives – for committed individuals who have little or no experience with non-profit structures, do not want to set them up themselves, or consider their commitment to be limited in terms of scope or time. This means that initiatives under the umbrella of WE AID either dissolve after a certain period of time (e.g. once the needs of the acute phase of a crisis have been successfully met) or establish themselves in the long term in their own corporate structures (e.g. as an association or non-profit limited company).
WE AID either assists with the dissolution or supports the transition to a separate non-profit structure. In the latter case, WE AID transfers all remaining assets to a newly created structure.
In principle, there is no reason not to set up comparable structures yourself, but with WE AID it is easier and, above all, much faster, so that, for example, the start-up period can be bridged. Sometimes funding commitments are already in place, but can only be accessed once a non-profit structure is ready to go. We are also happy to help with this.
03. How do I become part of WE AID with my initiative? Contact us!
In principle, any private individuals, initiatives, organisations or companies that want to engage in charitable and social work can contact WE AID and ask for support. This starts a process that leads to the initiative joining WE AID. WE AID checks whether the planned activities are fundamentally charitable and whether there are committed people behind them. After that, the initiative is added to the WE AID website as quickly as possible.
04. With which services does WE AID support your initiatives? With administrative services and legal advice, expertise and network.
WE AID takes care of all administrative tasks for the initiatives, in particular ongoing financial accounting (payroll accounting as required), legal advice, especially with regard to non-profit law in Germany, and all annual financial statement work. We also provide support with our experience and network.
Once an initiative is accepted under the umbrella of WE AID, it gains access to administrative structures (e.g. digital document management) and financial structures (e.g. regular short-term reporting on donations received) and can enter into legal obligations (e.g. domain purchase and website hosting) on behalf of WE AID. All of this is limited to the initiative's own initiative and assets. We are also continuing to work on this to make these processes as straightforward as possible.
Here is a small selection of the behind-the-scenes issues we deal with on an almost daily basis:
- Advising interested initiators and donors
- Onboarding initiatives (including checking charitable status and other legal issues)
- Supporting text and graphic design work,
- Creating individual payment infrastructure,
- Preparing accounting and reporting,
- Publishing on our website and social media channels,
- Ongoing maintenance of content in collaboration with the initiators,
- Ongoing payment processing of incoming donations,
- Creation of donation receipts for donors,
- Professional accounting and tax advice in the background,
- Insurance coverage for the initiatives' activities through various insurance policies (liability, accident, technology, etc.),
- Payment of contributions and fees (GEZ, GEMA, taxes, memberships, etc.),
- Support with or complete preparation of funding applications, including subsequent implementation and reporting,
- Concluding contracts within the scope of the initiatives' activities,
- Annual reporting to the tax office,
- Building a partner network to further strengthen our initiatives,
- Maintaining and developing our website and related IT systems,
- Training our team on topics that will make our work even better,
- General communication work for WE AID,
- And much more.
05. How is WE AID financed? We are also a non-profit organisation.
WE AID is a young non-profit organisation that was founded in April 2022. We build our current structures according to your needs and can draw on our experience and network.
Our services are financed from two main sources: direct funding from institutions or individuals directly to WE AID, and a percentage contribution from the initiatives from the donations received. In addition, we work with partners on a pro bono basis. Overall, WE AID contributes to the independent realisation of civil society activities and thus to strengthening social cohesion and engagement.
