Pressemitteilung:
GCC Donates $75,000 to Mastodon to Strengthen Decentralized Social Networks
[October 2025] — The Global Chinese Community of Universal Digital Commons (GCC Fund) announced a $75,000 donation to Mastodon, the leading open-source decentralized social platform.
The donation — facilitated through the non-profit WE AID — will accelerate feature development, strengthen operations, and expand Mastodon’s reach among local communities across Asia and beyond.
The partnership will advance through a series of development milestones — focusing first on researching new ways of improving account discovery in a federated manner, then implementing it into Mastodon, and finally expanding regional outreach and reporting to strengthen Mastodon’s presence in global Chinese communities.
Part of the donation — a dedicated $5,000 community fund — will be used to empower server administrators and local advocates in Chinese-speaking communities, helping them build and sustain independent, decentralized social spaces. Responding to community feedback, Mastodon also plans to provide clearer setup guidance and simplified deployment tools to make starting new instances easier for Chinese users.
