How to use WE AID as Foundation
How to use WE AID as Charitable Organization
The initial idea behind WE AID came from supporting private individuals who did not have access to charitable structures. However, it quickly became clear that our services could also be useful additions for existing charitable organisations. We prefer to work in partnership and complement each other in order to achieve more for social issues together. These can be organisations based or active in the Germany or abroad.
Below, we present some of the areas in which we have already successfully tested or established long-term partnerships. Experience has shown that the specific applications are very individual and are usually not limited to just one of the areas.
Feel free to contact us personally and let's discuss your needs and our possibilities. We look forward to hearing from you.
Fiscal hosting
A ‘fiscal host’ enables initiatives without their own legal form to act in a legally compliant manner, receive donations and utilise funding. WE AID is exactly that.
We also offer this sponsorship to non-profit organisations not based in Germany or the EU (fiscal hosting). This allows tax-deductible donations to be accepted in Germany and applications for funding (DE and EU) to be submitted. We ensure that transparency, legal certainty and the achievement of charitable goals are guaranteed at all times.
As a fiscal host, we are accountable to partners, funding providers and donors, and are a reliable and trustworthy partner to them and to you.
The following topics are closely related to our core activity as a fiscal host and represent more focused use cases.
Receiving donations & funding.
Receive donations and grants
Receiving donations and subsidies is part of our everyday work. We are constantly striving to make this process even easier and as efficient as possible. For traditional donations, we use Stripe as our payment solution in the background in order to offer the widest possible range of payment options. Larger non-profit organisations are often unable to process micro and small donations. In cooperation projects, we then take over the operational implementation.
In principle, we can accept donations from all countries. However, we only issue donation receipts in accordance with German law. We can also offer tax-deductible donations in the USA. For this purpose, we work together with local partner organisations.
When it comes to applying for funding, we can draw on over ten years of experience and are happy to support other non-profit organisations with the formalities of the application and the preparation of expenditure reports. As a fiscal host, we are happy to accept funding directly and take responsibility for it. We are also able to accept grants or larger donations within the EU or the USA. In the case of the USA, we are recognised under US law as a 501(c) organisation (the classic US non-profit status).
Send donations
Of course, we also use donations and grats received for the charitable purposes for which they were requested. Your basic idea or application concept is our guiding principle. We act as the project sponsor (fiscal host) and are responsible for the processes. In principle, it is possible to transfer funds to other charitable organisations or to implement projects directly under our sponsorship.
Pre-NGO & Post-NGO
Founding a non-profit organisation or similar in Germany can sometimes be challenging, especially if you have little experience in administrative matters and are doing everything on a voluntary basis ‘on the side.’ That's why it's not uncommon for the process of founding an NGO to take 12 to 18 months before you can really get involved in social work.
We would like to help you bridge this start-up phase. Under the auspices of WE AID, you can usually accept donations and funding from day one and start implementing your non-profit activities. In the meantime, you can press ahead with setting up the association. As a rule, you will learn a lot from the operational work you do with us, which you can also use later in the life of the association. We are also happy to help with any further questions you may have about non-profit status within the scope of our possibilities.
Once the association has been founded and is operational, we will be happy to transfer all the assets of your activities, which until then will be under the auspices of WE AID, to you.
We see the Post-NGO as the exact opposite approach. Sometimes it is challenging to keep association structures alive because the work as association chair, treasurer or auditor requires a certain amount of personal commitment. When this energy is lost, the core charitable activities are often lost as well. We would like to preserve these core activities and enable a transfer to our sponsorship.
Due diligence
We have a growing pool of eligible projects and organisations worldwide. We are happy to add to this pool on request and carry out due diligence with regard to eligibility.
For us, due diligence means ensuring that our or your partner organisations are eligible for funding under German non-profit law. We bring our many years of expertise to bear and are confident in our ability to assess the eligibility and trustworthiness of international organisations.
Thematically neutral platform
Sometimes you need a thematically neutral platform, even though you are a non-profit organisation yourself – we can offer this.
In this sense, neutral can mean that we, as the project sponsor (fiscal host), do not pursue any specific agenda. Our charitable purpose is to enable engagement across all topics.
Sometimes, however, neutral also means safer or more anonymous. There are forms of engagement where too much publicity is a hindrance to achieving charitable goals. We would like to use our resources for this purpose.
How we make these opportunities possible
WE AID is a non-profit organisation that relies on funding and donations. The initiatives we support are only charged a small fee of between five and ten percent of the donations raised to partially cover our expenses. The indirect costs (personnel and material costs) for providing the structures of WE AID are also financed by direct donations to WE AID or grants from foundations, companies or the public sector.
We generally ask institutional partners who work with us to contribute ten percent of the donations and grants we handle. In funding applications, we make sure to use all available options – in most cases, items are provided for administrative costs in order to cover our expenses.
