Ukraine2Power Winter Aid 2026

The situation in Ukraine is perhaps worse than ever before, and our leading media outlets are once again reporting on it more frequently. Since the Russian attacks on critical electricity and heating infrastructure on 9 January 2026, which have been repeated almost nightly since then, hundreds of thousands of households have been without electricity, water and heating. And this at temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius, one of the harshest winters in years. In Kyiv alone, there are reports of over a million households that have had to survive without supplies for many days. This has resulted in a humanitarian disaster that is putting many lives at risk. With temperatures in homes below 10 degrees Celsius, burst water pipes and radiators, and no cooking facilities, survival is the only thing that matters. As is so often the case in humanitarian crises, it is the most vulnerable who are affected: children, senior citizens, people with disabilities, and anyone who is unable to leave the city.
Humanitarian aid for this current situation has been slow to get off the ground. This is partly because previous winters during the war have been rather mild, with only short periods of cold weather. Current weather forecasts predict sub-zero temperatures well into February, even in our regions.
It was only when the personal cries for help became louder and clearer that the so-called ‘winter aid’ campaign was launched. Nataliia Fiebrig is the founder and managing director of Ukraine2Power (https://ukraine2power.org/), a Ukrainian NGO that started as an initiative under the non-profit umbrella of WE AID in Berlin. Natallia knows and experiences the situation on the ground and has been working tirelessly since the beginning of the Russian invasion to prevent people from being forgotten and to help those on the ground. She was one of the first to call for donations for ‘warmth kits’ with Ukraine2Power.
Each €80 donation helps to bring a little warmth back into a household. Depending on local availability, each kit contains: - a camping gas stove - an electric blanket (often there is electricity, but no heating, sometimes only temporarily) - power banks - chemical hand warmers and - a large thermos flask.
Donations can be made directly to Ukraine2Power in Ukraine or through us. WE AID acts as a non-profit organisation (known as a fiscal host) for Ukraine2Power in Germany. Donors who donate via WE AID donate within the United Kingdom and receive a donation receipt for tax deduction purposes if required. WE AID makes the donations received available to Ukraine2Power at short notice and reports on their use together with the Ukrainian NGO.
The first interim donation target of 100 heating kits was already reached on Thursday, 22 January 2026, enabling the volunteers at Ukraine2Power to get started right away. A total of 120 heating kits were ultimately procured and packed on site and distributed to affected households on Saturday, 24 January 2026. Currently, it is easier and faster to procure supplies locally than to import donations of goods into Ukraine. Monetary donations are therefore currently the most helpful way to provide immediate assistance.
As of 25 January 2026, additional heating kits are being procured, as the incredible generosity of donors has made it possible to supply many more households. Mathematically, this amounts to over 700. The concrete implementation and possible supplementation by systemic measures, for example to help entire institutions, is currently being organised locally. Ukraine2Power is also working in coordination with other aid organisations in Kyiv.
In order to provide ad hoc support to people like Nataliia and her team in their charitable activities and to relieve them of administrative tasks, we founded WE AID in April 2022. We would also like to thank all donors and local volunteers for their trust.
